The
HOLMES FAMILY HISTORY JOURNAL has been the life blood of
our society
for the last thirteen years, most of that time it has fallen on
the shoulders of Jean Watts
to edit, produce and distribute our
publication,
during that time
she has also undertaken the job of membership secretary.
Statement from
Jean Watts August 2006
This is definitely my last
Journal.
No one has offered to have a go so the committee put
their heads together and are of the opinion that we should try
to keep the Society active after all the hard work that has gone
on in the past.
We have decided that I will produce a news sheet
whenever there is sufficient information to justify the cost of
production and distribution. If any members are prepare to
receive information by Email I could send information in smaller
chunks and only use ’snail mail’ for those not able to
communicate in this way.
David will still add records to the
database, which I hope you will still send to him as you do any
research yourself particularly parish records, which are so
invaluable to other members.
Elaine will still check my letter
for mistakes,
Peter will still write those lovely labels and
Rosamund has quite a collection of microfiche records and will
do look ups.
Peter has offered to put our presence on the
Internet
www.holmesfhs.org.uk
with a link to my new email address which is:
holmesfhs@btinternet.com
My husband who does the accounts assures me that we have enough
money in the bank to cover postage and printing costs for at
least the next year,
I will review the finances at the end
of 2007 to see if I need to seek a further subscription then.
I
will continue to seek an initial joining fee of £5 or £10
airmail to foreign parts from new members.
I will still need you to send me topical information for the
newsletters. I am not a chatty person who can
fill a page on a
few facts so I will need information or articles of interest to
put into the newsletters and of course I will keep you informed
of any new members and their interests.
I will do look up’s in the
Vital Records Index published by the Mormons, if you send a name
with approximate dates for birth/marriages in a named county.
I am willing to send
print outs provided you ask for a particular
Christian name and send an SAE.
There are no deaths on this index.
We will survive as a society if everybody cooperates.
As you
know both David Holmes and myself can be contacted by email or
snail mail so all should be well. This way we will have modernised the society and have a presence on the Internet as
well.
